Welcome to my first blog of 2009! If this week’s travels are any indication of how the semester will go, I will have a lot to write about!
My first trip was this semester was to Florida State. Tuesday’s travels wanted to test me getting to campus on time, as I originally had 1 1/2 hours from the time I was landing in Tallahassee to when we were starting interviews. (If you have ever been there, then you would understand that it is more than enough time.) With a delay in my connecting flight in Atlanta, that time was cut to about 45 minutes, and I started to get worried. I didn’t want the students to have to wait on me….that is completely opposite of how it is suppose to go and not the impression I wanted to make. We arrived in time (and with a few minutes to spare) and we were off and rolling. The students came prepared and definitely put their best foot forward!
Did I mention above that the weather was awesome when I arrived? I forgot what it is like not have a winter coat on; Sunshine and near 70….who could ask for more when coming from Chicago!
Wednesday-2009 Dedman School of Hospitality Career Fair. That’s all I should say because every year (or at least since I have been going to FSU) it rains the day of the career fair. I am not talking about a few sprinkles…steady rain to a down pour is more of how it should be described. It did stop raining before the day was over, which made everyone happy. Of course, I have to mention the career fair was a success!
I am ready to leave campus…done for the day, then the dreaded alert from the airline appears on my Blackberry. Oh no…oh yes, the delay is so long that I won’t make it to Atlanta in time for my connecting flight. I am still not sure my flight will even leave Tallahassee, but I am trying to think positive. (A BIG thank you to my friends on Facebook. Your responses to my status made me laugh!) I made it to Atlanta and to the Hyatt Place Atlanta Airport-North for the night (love the free shuttle to & from airport, and of course the Grand Bed). After a few hours of sleep, it was time to go back t0 the airport….I was very happy when my flight was on time this morning.
On the road again next week…flying to New York-La Guardia to go to Culinary Institute of America. I am looking forward to seeing some great Culinary students eager for an internship. Keeping my fingers crossed that the traveling goes a bit smoother.
